Are the “Stans” the next big photography destination?

Come and photograph the “Stans” before they become the next big photo destination.

KZ, Kaindy Lake

Firstly, do you know where they are? Do you know what the famous landmarks are? What is the landscape like? What are the people like? How are they spelt? To be honest I didn’t know much about them either.

Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are 3 countries that I’ll be visiting next September.Formerly part of the Soviet Union, they are located in Central Asia between Russia, India and China. The landscape is a mixture of high mountains, steppe grassland and desert. They are known for their nomadic horse riding culture and in some places,  they still hunt with golden eagles!

Uzbekistan is home to the stunning blue mosque of Samarkand. This grandiose building is an absolute gem and exceptionally photogenic. Bukhara, the ‘copper city’, was an important trading post on the ancient Silk Road and has a lovely market which is virtually tourist free.

Until now the ’Stans’ have gone under the radar as a photo destination. Last year, I googled photo tours in the Stans and got only one result. However, it’s just a matter of time before they make it onto the bucket list. So this is absolutely the time to visit before it becomes an ‘A’ list destination.

Don’t miss out on our future Photography Tour

Join us next year from September 26th on our photography workshop covering these countries as part of the famous Silk Road as we start looking at the fascinating architecture of Uzbekistan, moving to the diversity of Kazakhstan before finishing on the photogenic landscapes of Kyrgyzstan.
