Colombia Andes to Caribbean
Colombia Andes to the Caribbean – All inclusive Photography Holiday
20 January to 1 February 2021 – 13 days
Be amongst the first to photograph the beautiful and diverse country of Colombia. After years of unrest, Colombia is now a safe country to travel in and and not yet tainted by mass tourism. People are friendly and welcoming, the landscape is stunning and the culture is fascinating.
We’ve worked closely with a local photographer to design a trip which includes a mixture of the most photogenic parts of Colombia. We’ll travel through the high mountains of the Andes to the lush Caribbean coast. Along the way, we’ll discover well-preserved Colonial architecture, fishing villages where life has stood still and jungle full of birds and other wildlife.
We’ll stay in some stylish, characterful hotels carefully chosen for your comfort. You’ll taste delicious, local cuisine and most importantly experience the warmth and kindness of the people. This promises to be an exceptional photo tour full of surprises and new adventures.
Our journey starts in Bogota where we’ll explore the historical centre, its lively markets and squares. We’ll then drive into the mountains via the heritage site of Zipaquira Salt Cathedral to the incredible Villa de Leyva. From there, we continue into the mountains to the traditional red town of Barichara made entirely from bricks. Finally, we will reach Guane known for its whitewashed houses and narrow stone streets.
After a short flight, we’ll arrive at the coast. Our first stop is Barlovento in the stunning Tayrona National Park. Here you’ll get a chance to photograph the birdlife and crystal clear Caribbean sea. Nearby is Minca, home to indigenous people. We’ll stop at a farm where the people are happy to be photographed and you’ll the opportunity to take some wonderful portraits.
Further along the coast is Nueva Venecia (New Venice), a fishing village where the inhabitants live in stilt huts on the sea and move about on dugout boats. The village is cut off from the outside world and a real gem for photographers. You could spend days here but we have to move on to Cartagena, ’Pearl of the Caribbean’. The buildings are very colourful and form the perfect backdrop for photographing the local people and numerous fruit sellers.
Don’t leave it too long to visit Colombia which is sure to become a major photography destination. At the moment however, it’s still a dream location for photographers.
