Vietnam Photography Tour
18th-29th September 2017
North Vietnam Golden rice fields at harvest time – minority tribes – Karst mountains of Halong Bay
The fields of rice turn a golden colour in Late September and the farmers get ready for the harvest. There is plenty of activity among the minority tribes who will spend their days cutting and carrying the bundles of rice. The fields cascade down the mountainsides, with only small wooden huts breaking up the curved terraces. The patterns are extremely photogenic especially at sunrise and sunset. To the west of Hanoi lay the most beautiful fields in North Vietnam and this is where we will spend the first week.
As well as photographing the exquisite landscape, we will have plenty of time to explore the many villages and markets that are home to tribes like the H’mong people. Most women still wear traditional costumes and are very friendly and happy to be photographed.
After enjoying the cool mountain air and gorgeous light, we head for the coast where we will photograph the amazing karst mountains of UNESCO protected Halong bay. We’ll shoot the landscape from the land and from our luxurious boat. Junks, traditional chinese sailing boats, are still in use today and can be seen sailing between the mountains. We will visit floating villages and giants caves and will capture the mountains reflected in the water from various vantage points.
Finally, we’ll return to Hanoi, where we’ll explore the narrow streets of the old town, the lake and the famous Long Bien bridge. This tour provides us with plenty of opportunities to photograph landscape at it’s best, tribes and wonderful architecture. For those of you who have travelled with me to Burma or China, this trip is a must. It will be fascinating to see the differences between the people and countryside, especially at harvest time.
