Discover the picturesque villages and stunning landscape of the Alsace, at their most beautiful in late October.

Nestled beneath the Vosges mountains are some of the most picturesque villages in Europe. Surrounded by endless fields of golden vines, these architectural gems are exquisite. The medieval, half-timbered houses line cobbled streets and have been decorated in different colours - red, blue, yellow, green, purple... If you look up you often see storks nesting on the old stone chimney tops. As symbols of happiness and faithfulness, many storks stay all year round.

Based in the village of Riquewihr, we will visit the most beautiful villages in the region as well as the impressive town of Colmar. The locations are all close together which means more time taking photos and less time travelling.

Hunawihr is home to one of the most photogenic churches I’ve seen on my travels. Located on a hilltop surrounded by vines, the church looks out at the plains below that run all the way to Germany.

A short drive takes us to Eguisheim, whose concentric streets turn in the shape of a snails shell. We’ll photograph the fountains, courtyards and colourful old houses with steep pitched roofs and timber-framed facades.

If you like colour and exquisite architecture, then you’ll love the fairytale village of Colmar. Recently renovated, the multi-coloured buildings look fantastic reflected in the canal. The old buildings are bedecked in ornate flower arrangements all year round and look like something from a Hansel and Gretel story.

Whilst we explore the different villages, we’ll savour some delicious Alsatian cuisine such as the tarte flambé (Bacon and onion tart), Sauerkraut, Baeckeoffe (casserole) and coq au Riesling. All washed down with a crisp Alsatian wine or local beer!
